Tip of the Day: Fluids in Hemodialysis Patients

For a patient on MHD, calculating fluids is very important.

  • Best way to do this is to keep one litre bottle of water separate.
  • Any fluid intake like tea, dals, vegetables with gravy, kadhi or chaas or even rice, upmas should be calculated from the water bottle and that much amount of water should be discarded from the bottle.
  • Rest of it is the patient’s plain water intake for 24 hours.
